Types of music videos

Narrative based video
A video consisting mainly of a story line relating to the lyrics and genre of the song. This is a good technique to use for engaging the audience. This type of video is often used for songs that feature in films, with scenes from the film cut into the video.

Performance based video
Performance based videos feature the band/artist performing either to the camera or an audience. this is a popular technique rock bands use as there concerts are usually high energy and there is more interest for a viewer to watch the band perform as a whole rather than an artist on their own.

Concept based video
Concept based videos are music videos which base around one idea or concept. They often concentrate on a specific editing technique. Usually a video does not consist totally of one concept.

Animation based video
Animation based videos are music videos which contain animation and effects as visuals, as the song is played over. The animation usually matches and is in sync with the song and is a creative way of making a music video.

Mixture based video
Where there is a musician playing as well as a narrative story line occurring at the camera cuts between them.

Cameo based video
Where someone famous or from the same music label features in the same music video.
