Analysis of music video - Motley Crue

Motley Crue - Same Old Situation

Camera:
The opening to this music video shows a low angled shot looking up at a landing helicopter which gets closer to the camera as it lands. The band is then shot out of the helicopter with a hand-held camera as each member of the band passes by the camera. Each band member pulls a face as a ECU. A camera zoom is used positioned inside the crowd to emphases the firework on stage and to create a feeling of the audience being inside the vast crowd at this concert/gig. A camera is positioned inside the crowd and is sped up and is travelling through at eye level. This connotes the size of the crowd and their excitement. A low angled long shot is used to show the band member jumping over the camera in slow motion which connotes his importance on stage and helps to emphases his jump on stage. Long shots and close ups are used throughout the music video to show each band member playing their instrument on stage as to show the whole band performing to the vast crowd in front of them. Tracking shots and pans are used to follow the band across the big stage as they perform. Low angled close up is used to show the lead singers authority and significance on stage as he sings. Ariel shots are used to shoot the crowd as they cheer which connotes the size of the crowd and also connotes they are less important than the band on stage. Extreme long shots are used to shoot the stage from the back of the area to show the vast stage size and the production including lighting and effects on stage as well as showing the crowd in front of the stage at this performance. A two-shot is used to show the guitarist and the lead singer together performing together. Over the shoulder shot has been used to show the guitarist playing to the crowd lower down that him. This connotes his importance and power over them. Finally, a long shot panning from left to right shows the closure of the song and the band looking over the cheering crowd.

Mise-en-scene:
All band members are wearing leather, have long hair, tattoos and head bands which relates to the rock and roll style and is stereotypically associated with rock bands. On stage and in the gig, is all the bands instruments, equipment and the vast crowd in front of them. The band members and crowds facial expressions show they're excitement and enthusiasm at the gig. Lighting is used from the stage as spotlights which shine over the stage and the crowd. Production including fireworks are shown on stage which provides short lighting and effect. The band positioning on stage is the drummer at the back, the two guitarists at each side of the stage and the singer in the centre, at the front of the stage. This connotes his importance as a singer and his power in the band.

Sound:
The sound is the song played from the band and their instruments and the diegetic screams from the crowd and the fireworks and effects on stage. Rock genre.

Editing:
The crowd footage has been sped up fast to connote the vast size of the crowd and create a feeling of the audience running through the large crowd. Jump cuts are used throughout this music video to cut between each section of footage including: The band, each separate member and the vast crowd. Slow motion has been edited in the music video to show the crowds reactions and the band members performing. The ending of the music video shows a fade to black which signifies the ending of the song and video to the audience. Text is added into the video as a message from the band.
