Analysis of music video - Motley Crue

Motley Crue - Live Wire



Camera:
The opening of this music video shows low angled ECUs of the band members and their guitars as they play. This allows the audience to see up close the guitarists performing. Close-ups and mid-shots are used throughout the video to show each band member play their instruments. Low angled shots are used throughout the music video to look up at the band member which connotes their significance and dominance on stage. A tracking shot is used to follow each band member, mostly the lead singer, across the stage as they each perform. A mid-shot is used to show the flames behind the lead singer of the band. Two-shots have been used to show two members of the band, performing together on stage. Longs shots are used to show the whole band together on stage performing together.

Mise-en-scene:
The band are all dressed in leather, have long hair, tattoos and chains which are all related to the stereotypical look for a rock and roll band. Each band member has a passionate facial expression as they sing, scream and perform on stage. The positioning of the band involves: the drummer at the back of the stage in the centre, the two guitarists on each side of the stage and the singer in the centre, at the front of the stage. This connotes his importance on stage and his authority and importance in the band. The production on stage includes the smoke and lighting which covers the band as they perform.

Sound:
The sound is from the band performing using their instruments including: drums, guitars and the vocals from the lead singer. Rock genre.

Editing:
Jump cuts are used throughout this music video to show each band member perform and their different instruments and also connotes the pace and tempo of the song as well as connoting the fast lifestyle the band have as rock n' roll musicians. Slow motion and fades are used together to show the singer and the performance. This emphases the bands excitement and enthusiasm on stage.
