Analysis of music video - Motley Crue

Motley Crue - Wild Side



Camera:
The opening starts with a multiple cameras on stage with the band and each getting a perspective view of the band members including a ECU of the singer of the band. A long shot and tracking shot has been used to follow the lead singer running across the stage. The long shot reveals the vast size of the stage in which the band are performing on to a vast crowd of screaming fans. Hand held camera footage is used to create a sense of the viewers being on stage with the band and to show the pace of the band performing to the tempo of the song. A long shot positioned in the crowd as a low angle helps create a sense of the audience being in the crowd at the gig. A pan shot/ tracking shot is used to show the size of the crowd at this performance. Mid-shots and close-ups and used throughout the video to show the band members playing their instruments and the vocals from the singer. Low angle shots are used in this music video to look up at the band and mainly the lead singer, which connotes his power, authority and importance on stage. Pan shots are used to follow the band and to show the vast stage the band are performing on. A two-shot is used to show both guitarists together playing on stage to the crowd. A long shot is used to show the firework on stage, which makes it clear for the audience to see. Over the shoulder shot has been used to look over the singers shoulder and onto the crowd which helps represent the size and power the lead singer has over the crowd. A on-board camera (Go pro) has been used to show the drummer playing as he spins in the air on stage. Long shots are also used at this moment to show his movement and the size of the rotating drum kit. Finally, a long shot is used to show the stage and the vast lighting and the crowd looking onto the stage as the music video fades to black signifying the end of the song.

Mise-en-scene:
All band members are wearing leather, have long hair, tattoos and head bands which relates to the rock and roll style and is stereotypically associated with rock bands. On stage and in the gig, is all the bands instruments, equipment and the vast crowd in front of them. The band members and crowds facial expressions show they're excitement and enthusiasm at the gig. Lighting is used from the stage as spotlights which shine over the stage and the crowd. 

Sound:
The sound is the song played from the band and their instruments which has been edited over the top of the visuals which have been muted to allow the audience to listen to the song clearly with no background noises. Diegetic sound of the lead singer is used to show his excitement and scream into the camera. Rock genre.

Editing:
Jump cuts are used throughout this music video to cut between each section of footage including: The band, each separate member and the vast crowd. Slow motion has been edited in the music video to show the lead singer running and jumping which helps to emphases his speed and height. Its also used to show the effects on stage including the fire flames behind the guitarist. The ending of the music video shows a fade to black which signifies the ending of the song and video to the audience.
